Welcome to the Altar Experience!

Art Show!

A sample of the Art process!

My altarpiece is titled Freedom. It is a representation and translation of theLaw/Gospel painting by Lucas Cranach the Elder and theTwo Kingdomsteaching by Martin Luther. This exhibition is to showFreedom with movement, placement and dialogue. Movementby how the brush strokes create circular motions and interweave with other colors. Placement as theLaw/Gospel painting is in the background supporting the space given for the Two Kingdoms to live and breathe in the foreground. Dialogue for Humanity to enter the space at the altar without shame or guilt, to be creative in writing or speech, to do and to be what God created.

The many brush strokes and complimentary colors where inspired by artist Vincent Van Gogh. However the colors do come with meanings:

Yellow-Green is all of creation.
Dark Purple is a memorial of Christ’s death and resurrection
Blue is the transfiguration, the hope for Humanity to continually
be transformed by God.
White is the Holy Spirit that brings Truth to one’s context.
Orange is opportunity and potential of what can happen in this life called freedom.

Law/Gospel is a teaching from Luther and Melanchthon showing how to bring understanding from the Bible in our physical state. Law deals with what is non-negotiable, a revealer of wrong and a regulator of right living. It is so perfect that in all reality no one can live up to it. However, Gospel or the good news is the compassionate replacement of that perfect one who fulfills that Law for Humanity’s sake. It comes rushing to stand in the gap through Jesus Christ who comes down, lives and dies to take away the shame and guilt of Humanity turning away from God. The Gospel not only brings peace, but power to live in the midst of failures, shortcomings or imperfections that still happen, a condition which Luther called “saint and sinner.”

Two Kingdoms from Luther talk about the physical and spiritual kingdom or the left and right kingdom. The left or physical kingdom deals with the activity of Humanity living, creating, building within the structures and orders God created, while the right or spiritual kingdom makes Humanity’s role passive because Christ does the activity on the cross, in death and resurrection, creating space for Humanity to participate in faith.

So please when you enter, feel free to give, create or receive from this space called freedom. Grace and Peace be with you all this day, Amen.
